Well ...
Guess most of the flaws of the current alliance system have been pointed out already. Also saw somebody comment on how an alliance could or should protect its 'carebears', speak Agent runners, industrialists ...
That is partly right. Yes industrial convoys and the likes can be protected and escorted. But not nearly enough to sustain full industrial capacity. To take XF as an example (since its all about XF nowadays anyway ;)) ... It would take enormous efforts to defend all the industrial corporations operations in empire. In fact i dare to say its virtually impossible if one considers what amounts off minerals, goods and components have to moved to sustain the heavy industry.
The solutions are kind of obvious ... - Many ppl us Alts or even whole Alt corps for hauling and doing business (i cant really imagine CCP intended that or is very fond of it. Alts are a to easy and imo bad solution, but as easy as it is ppl are virtually forced in doing it) - No real industrial corporations in an alliance. (for a larger industrial corp or a t2 producer 0.0 space simply is no option, no supply, no factories, no demand)
But ok, lets say thats up to discussion wether or not its really possible to defend such operations. Lets leave open if an alliance really needs to sustain such large industrial operations in empire, or if it actually needs industry corps.
Lets look at something else ...
Growth and new blood within alliance corps.
even if: - alliances move to 0.0 - their normal operations in empire can be defended
That leaves to point of new players. I dare to say that all these problems are not so big for the 'older' players. They mostly know how to handle themselves. But the very new ones ? No.
Even corp in alliances, or maybe exactly them want to recruit, want to get new blood. Can and want such corporation limit recruitments only to 10m or 20m pvp veterans and/or other seasoned ppl?
No, i dont think so. New players are always a refreshing addition to a corp. Corps need them to continue, for they also lose ppl over time. And for the new ppl its also great help to be able to join an older season corp. But with the alliance war system a noob that joins an alliance corp practically find himself in empire on a shooting range. He wont be able to explore empire on his own for more then a few jumps without getting podded. Now i dont really think that will highly motivate a new guy ...
You may now say ... Dont recruit newbie's in your Corp .... But what if one wants to? Dont let the newbie's fly alone .... Come on, seriously, you cant throw one in a pvp suit on his first day in eve, one needs some time to learn to know it on his own too. Make a recruitment corp ... Yeah, great, are we talking Alt corp again? And besides, many ppl dont really like to split up perfectly fine corps.
Now having said that, and i dont really consider it a rant or anything like that, i think it states how it is. I also cant really say how to make it better or change it, but nevertheless i think its quite some downside for alliance corps. And i mean every alliance here... except of course you are pvp only, only taking in pvp vets ...
